A Memorable Journey to Ghandruk

I've always heard that Ghandruk Gaun is a beautiful place for a homestay, and my curiosity was finally going to be satisfied. My parents planned a five-day trip to Ghandruk during my vacation. Having been born in Birjung, I had never seen the hilly regions of Nepal before. This first visit left a lasting impression on me. The journey through the green countryside, passing numerous hills, was mesmerizing. The beautiful scenery along the way still flashes in my memory.
We spent the first night at a hotel in Pokhara. Early the next morning, after a quick breakfast, our adventure began. As we moved forward, Mt. Machapuchare stood majestically before us. I had never been so close to a mountain peak. The sight was awe-inspiring and made the trip feel entirely worthwhile.
After a few hours in the jeep, we finally reached Nayapul, where our hike would begin. The path ahead was steep, and I struggled to walk through the hills. My father noticed my struggle and suggested we take a break. We stopped at a set of stone-paved stairs that led towards Ghandruk. He handed me a bottle of cold drink, and we took in the breathtaking views.
"Are you enjoying the scenery?" my mother asked. "Isn't it an exciting experience to see such a picturesque village?" my father added, pointing to the village with clustered houses. I couldn't help but agree, the picturesque scenery thrilled me, erasing all traces of tiredness.
"Mummy, I'm ready to move ahead. I'm not exhausted. Let's go!" I exclaimed, eager to reach the village.
As we walked, we got a bit lost. My father asked a passerby for directions, and the man kindly offered to guide us. He shared interesting facts about Ghandruk, a town and village development committee in the Kaski District. The village, primarily inhabited by Ghyabre Gurungs, uses horses for transport, adding to its charm and appeal to tourists.
We enjoyed the journey with our new guide. After about a five-hour walk, we reached our destination. The villagers welcomed us with marigold garlands and tika, a traditional way to greet guests. Their hospitality was heartwarming, and we were served fresh, delicious organic food. We ate dal, bhat, tarkari, and achar with a Gurung family, feeling right at home.
We spent the next few days immersed in the homely environment of Ghandruk. The village offered stunning views of the Annapurna Himalayan range. Each day was filled with new experiences and a deeper appreciation for the local culture and natural beauty. The hospitality we received made us feel like part of the community.
Our five-day stay in Ghandruk was an unforgettable experience. The blend of natural beauty, cultural richness, and warm hospitality made it a perfect getaway. As we returned home, our hearts were filled with memories of the picturesque village and the wonderful people we met along the way.
